Later this month, we will mark a dark anniversary – four years since Russia’s illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
I and all my colleagues in Government use all opportunities domestically and internationally to maintain a focus on this issue. The Deputy will be aware of the frequent debates in the Oireachtas on Ukraine and on Russia, where there is bipartisan support for the people of Ukraine and awareness of the issue remains high.
As we approach the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, there will be a programme of events and communications designed to reaffirm our support to Ukraine and to maintain pressure on Russia as it continues its war of aggression.
I have asked that the exterior of Iveagh House be illuminated in Ukraine’s national colours and I hope the same can be done elsewhere. As on other occasions, Irish Embassies and Consulates, where appropriate to do so, will fly the Ukrainian flag at the time of the anniversary in order to show solidarity with Ukraine.
As we approach the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, it is important that we maintain our support for Ukraine and it is important that we continue to seek a resolution of this terrible conflict.
