The Private Wires Bill is currently being drafted following Cabinet approval of the General Scheme in December 2025. Therefore, there is no process to apply for private wires as they do not have a legislative basis. Pending approval, it is envisaged that the application process for private wires will be the responsibility of the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU). The CRU will act independently from the Minister in this regard.
