The Supports for Survivors of Residential Institutional Abuse Act 2025 completed its passage through the Oireachtas and was signed in to law in July 2025. The Act has two main purposes - to enable the delivery of ongoing supports to survivors of abuse in residential institutions and to allow the formal dissolution of Caranua, which essentially closed in 2021.

My Department is finalising arrangements for the rollout of the supports to be provided under the Act and it is intended to complete the commencement of the relevant provisions of the Act as soon as possible.
