The Westport (Cois Abhainn and Ashwood) scheme is complete, the Crossmolina scheme is at construction and planning consent for the Ballina scheme has been granted.

Since 2018, the development of flood relief schemes involves a specific requirement for consultant engineers to assess the potential for nature-based solutions as part of the overall design of a flood relief scheme for a community. Where feasible, these measures will be implemented to reduce flood risk and contribute to achieving other benefits including water quality, biodiversity, carbon sequestration and public amenity.
