My Department does not provide funding allocations to Approved Housing Bodies for social housing projects, rather my Department recoups the relevant local authorities as projects advance and claims fall due for payment in line with the relevant scheme conditions.
Similarly my Department does not collate data on specific AHB project spend; however such information may be obtained from individual local authorities.
While details on the funding provided to each individual AHB is not readily available within my Department, over €4.5 billion was provided by my Department for the period 2020 to 2024 in respect of a range of AHB capital and current funded schemes, as set out in the table below. 2025 housing expenditure is currently being finalised and will be available on completion of the Departments 2025 Appropriation Account.

My Department also publishes the Social Housing Construction Status Report (CSR), which provides details of social housing developments and their location and status, whether completed, under construction or progressing through the various stages of the design and tender processes; including developments delivered by Circle Voluntary Housing Association. The most recent publication was for Quarter 3 2025. All CSRs are available at the following link: www.gov.ie/en/collection/cb885-social-housing-construction-projects-status-reports/
A version of the CSR file can also be downloaded for analysis by local authority, location and specific AHB at this link: opendata.housing.gov.ie/dataset/social-housing-construction-status-report-q3-2025
Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) play a vital role in the delivery of social housing and are key partners in the Government's National Housing Plan; Delivering Homes, Building Communities 2025 - 2030.
It is important to note that AHBs are independent, not-for-profit organisations and are not bodies under the aegis of my Department. While they may receive some State funding for the provision of housing, they are legally distinct from the State and operate under their own separate constitutions and boards of management.
The Approved Housing Bodies Regulatory Authority (AHBRA), which is a State agency under the aegis of my Department, is responsible for the regulation of AHB sector.
The contact email address for AHBRA is: oireachtasqueries@ahbregulator.ie
