688. Deputy Conor Sheehan asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht if funding will be made available for the development of a library in Castletroy, Limerick City; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13562/26]
View answerThe provision of library services including the development of library buildings is primarily a matter for Local Authorities in their capacity as library authorities under the Local Government Act 2001. Accordingly, the delivery of a library in Castletroy is primarily a matter for Limerick City and County Council. Under the Libraries Capital Programme 2023-2027, my Department is investing €22.6m in 11 library infrastructure projects and a further €2.6m in 12 next-generation mobile libraries across the country. This programme is currently fully committed and there is no scope to accept any applications from councils for new library projects at present. My Department will be in contact with local authorities in respect of future calls under the Libraries Capital Programme in due course.
