781. Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the number of prisoners currently in prison who have previously served time in prison. [14846/26]
View answerI am advised by the Irish Prison Service that a snapshot analysis of the prison population is conducted on the last day of each month. The most recent analysis was conducted on the 31 January 2026 and it is this analysis which has been used to provide the information requested by the Deputy.
On the 31 January 2026, the total number of people in custody was 5,731. Of these, 3,773 previously served time in prison.
