The Government is committed to ensuring that An Garda Síochána has the resources it needs to fight crime and a strengthened, well-resourced Garda organisation is central to this policy. I was pleased to secure unprecedented funding of over €2.7 billion for this year, is supporting the continued recruitment of Garda members and staff.

It should be noted that the maximum age for a Garda recruit was only increased from 35 to 50 in 2024, so the number of newly attested Gardai over 45 who have since resigned does not arise for any year prior to 2024.

I have been advised by the Garda authorities that, to date, there have been no resignations of newly attested members over the age of 45.
