I was pleased last December to welcome the publication of the Rail Project Prioritisation Strategy which provides a way forward for faster rail services, improved frequency, and greater accessibility and connectivity across this island, following on from the publication of the All-Island Strategic Rail Review in 2024.

This Strategy includes the construction of the Western Rail Corridor from Athenry to Claremorris, on which some preliminary clearing works have already commenced.

The publication of the NDP Sectoral Investment Plan, by my Department in November last year, included funding to commence the reinstatement of the line.

Noting Iarnród Éireann's (IÉ) responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to IÉ for a direct reply on the specific matter raised. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.

A referred reply was forwarded to the Deputy under Standing Orders.
