Under the provisions of the Education Act, 1998, the board of management is the body charged with the direct governance of a school and the principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.

The Board has overall responsibility for school polices and the extent to which a board will need to consider any particular school policy will depend on the circumstances of the school concerned.

Schools, like any public amenity, are required to follow road safety measures set down by the department of transport and the road safety authority when it comes to e-scooters accessing their premises. Enforcement of road safety regulations, including in the case of e-scooters, is a matter for An Garda Siochana.
