Pregnancy loss is a tragedy for families and the legislation does provide for Maternity Leave and Benefit to be available to mothers who experience a stillbirth where the child weighs no less than 400 grammes or has a gestational age of not less than 23 weeks.

The Department of Children, Disability and Equality has policy and legal responsibility for the introduction of any leave for miscarriage or pregnancy loss, beyond that already covered. The introduction of an associated benefit would then be considered in consultation between my Department and the Department of Children, Disability and Equality.

I trust this clarifies matters for the Deputy.
