As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that prior to 2018 receipts from motor tax were paid into the Local Government Fund. Since the 1 January 2018, following budgetary reform measures provided for in the Water Services Act 2017, receipts from motor tax have accrued to the Exchequer. Motor Tax receipts are not ringfenced for any particular purpose and are paid directly into the Central Fund.

Gross motor tax revenue was €926m in 2025.
