Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science the number of on-campus student accommodation units that are located on each university or higher education institution campus; the number currently under construction on each campus; the number currently with planning permission for each campus, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are currently over 49,200 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) beds nationally. Approximately Two-thirds of which are owned and operated by private providers.

As shown on the chart below publicly funded Higher Education Institutions collectively provide more than 15,600 beds.

The table below sets out the current approximate inventory of PBSA beds (c15,600) owned and operated by public Higher Education Institutions.
