Questions (685)

Cian O'Callaghan

Question:

685. Deputy Cian O'Callaghan asked the Minister for Transport whether his Department has engaged with the Office of the Ombudsman regarding cases where multiple State regulatory bodies have each declined jurisdiction over the same aviation safety oversight complaint; whether such a pattern has been identified; what mechanism exists to ensure that a complainant is not left without any effective remedy as a result of sequential jurisdictional refusals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Office of the Ombudsman is an independent body which deals with reports and complaints using its own policies and procedures. The Minister for Transport has no role in the processes used by that Office, regardless of whether complaints might relate to sectors or policies which are within his overall remit.
