369. Deputy Barry Ward asked the Minister for Transport the number of new cars sold in Ireland in each of the years 2024, 2025 and to date in 2026, broken down by their country of origin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27888/26]
View answerAs Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, I wish to clarify that the Department of Transport has no role in the sale of vehicles. Vehicle registration details are provided to the Department by the Revenue Commissioners, who act as the point of entry to the National Vehicle and Driver File (NVDF).
It is understood that the Deputy’s question relates to imported vehicles and, on this basis, the table below sets out the number of newly registered imported private vehicles recorded on the NVDF in 2024, 2025 and 2026 (to date). It should be noted that, for most of these vehicles, the NVDF does not record the country of origin.
