At the first annual UK-Ireland Summit held in Liverpool in March 2025, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and I agreed a programme of strategic cooperation out to 2030, known as the UK-Ireland 2030 programme.
The UK-Ireland 2030 Steering Group was established to oversee delivery of the UK-Ireland 2030 programme, as set out in the Joint Statement following that Summit meeting, and to drive progress and ambition, including identifying ways for bilateral cooperation to evolve and build over time.
It is co-chaired by the Secretary General of the Department of the Taoiseach and the UK Cabinet Secretary. The membership also includes officials from the British and Northern Ireland Affairs Division of the Department of the Taoiseach and the Ambassador of Ireland to Great Britain, together with their UK counterparts. Additional attendees are invited to attend the Steering Group as appropriate.
The Steering Group has met four times since its establishment in June 2025. It is expected to meet again in the coming weeks to review progress and discuss ongoing implementation, including in follow up to the recent UK-Ireland 2026 Summit in Cork.
