The figures requested by the Deputy are outlined in the table.

2026

January

February

March

Recipients

420,841

419,926

468,283

Expenditure

€103,316,000

€44,609,000

€69,630,000

Recipients of Fuel Allowance can choose to receive their payment weekly or in two lump sums annually. The January expenditure figures in the table above includes a lump sum payment to some customers.

As part of Budget 2026, Fuel Allowance has been extended to recipients of the Working Family Payment. This extension came into effect in March, with arrears paid back to January. This is the reason for the higher expenditure and recipient figures in March.
