Only one open infringement procedure against the State falls within the remit of my Department. On 29 January 2026, the European Commission issued a Letter of Formal Notice to Ireland (Infringement Procedure 2026/0083) on the basis that Ireland had failed to notify the transposition of Directive (EU) 2024/1438 relating to honey, fruit juices and certain similar products intended for human consumption*, by the deadline of 14 December 2025. The transposition of the Directive has since been fully notified to the European Commission.

*Directive (EU) 2024/1438 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 May 2024 amending Council Directives 2001/110/EC relating to honey, 2001/112/EC relating to fruit juices and certain similar products intended for human consumption, 2001/113/EC relating to fruit jams, jellies and marmalades and sweetened chestnut purée intended for human consumption, and 2001/114/EC relating to certain partly or wholly dehydrated preserved milk for human consumption.
