I can confirm to the Deputy, that my department is in receipt of an application for capital funding, under the Additional School Accommodation (ASA), from the school referred to by the Deputy.

The Department’s NDP Implementation Plan has a strong focus on maximising existing school capacity, progressing priority projects where local capacity across schools in the area is insufficient, and ensuring delivery that is affordable, offers value for money, and meets functional needs.

In line with the recently published primary staffing schedule, It is important from a school accommodation perspective that admission processes operated by individual primary schools are focused on meeting local needs and do not result in a requirement for additional accommodation unless the Department’s Planning & Building Unit considers that it is necessary to meet demographic or special class requirements in that local area.

Department officials have been in contact with the school referred to and further information was provided. The school’s application will be reviewed in this context and the school will be advised directly of the department’s decision.
