The Student Grant Scheme, administered by SUSI, provides grant assistance to students attending an approved course in an approved institution who meet the prescribed conditions of funding, including those relating to nationality, residency, previous academic attainment and means. The decision on eligibility for a student grant is a matter for the centralised student grant awarding authority SUSI to determine.

SUSI have advised my Department that the student referred to by the Deputy had an initial application for funding refused but has since submitted another application which is currently awaiting assessment. Once this application is assessed, the student will receive a letter advising them of the outcome of the assessment.

If a student disputes the HEA record related to their periods of study, they should contact the HEA directly to resolve this issue. It would not be appropriate for the Department to intervene on behalf a of student in such matters.
