Ireland is monitoring the humanitarian situation in Cuba and echoes the UN Secretary General’s deep concern at the growing humanitarian crisis in country. Ireland, along with our EU partners, is of the view that placing an embargo on basic goods, and particularly fuel, simply heightens the suffering of ordinary Cubans.

Ireland has consistently provided humanitarian support to Cuba through our funding of global humanitarian funds, such as the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Disaster Relief Fund (IFRC DERF).

Ireland also supports Cuba through funding to the World Food Programme and we have committed €100,000 through the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation to assist Cuba in managing food security.

Ireland will continue to engage with Cuba through a range of diplomatic channels, including via the Cuban Embassy in Dublin and through our Embassy in Mexico, which is accredited to Cuba, and through European and United Nations fora.
