In March, I announced that vaccination for Bluetongue would be included as an option in the 2026 National Sheep Welfare Scheme and the 2026 Beef Welfare Scheme. I recommend that all farmers concerned about Bluetongue consult their Private Veterinary Practitioner regarding vaccination. Vaccination can reduce the impact and severity of Bluetongue virus on livestock and thus mitigate both animal health and welfare issues and the production losses which Bluetongue can cause.

There are no movement restrictions in place within Ireland in relation to Bluetongue.

Up to date information on bluetongue can be found on the Government website at: www.gov.ie/bluetongue.
