Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Education and Youth if there is any reduction of funding for the July provision programme in national schools; if she will commit to restoring and safeguarding this funding to ensure adequate provision for summer 2026 and beyond; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerDetails of the 2026 Summer Programme were communicated to schools on the 6th May 2026 with the online application portals being opened from the 6th May 2026 to the 15th May 2026 inclusive.
All schools have been given the opportunity to run a Summer Programme for children with the most complex special educational needs and those at risk of educational disadvantage. Where a school is not running a school-based programme or a place on the school-based programme is unavailable, schools were invited to register eligible children for the home-based programme.
In addition to there being no change in the eligiblity criteria and the terms and conditions of the Summer Programme from previous years, there has also been no reduction in funding for the Summer Programme in primary, post-primary or special schools in terms of capitation and payroll costs.
