Arrangements for the 2027 International Famine Commemoration will be considered by the Minister, in his capacity as Chair of the National Famine Commemoration Committee, in consultation with the Committee and other stakeholders. The date and location of the 2027 event have not yet been finalised but plans are progressing.
There are currently no proposals to hold the International Famine Commemoration on the same day as the National Famine Commemoration. The scheduling of commemorative events takes account of a range of logistical, operational and representational considerations to ensure that both commemorations can be appropriately marked. In addition, the Minister, as Chair of the National Famine Commemoration Committee, hosts the National Famine Commemoration and presides over the International Famine Commemoration. Holding both events on the same day would not facilitate appropriate Government representation at either commemoration.
Planning for future International Famine Commemorations is underway, and work has commenced on arrangements for forthcoming events. Further details regarding the 2027 International Famine Commemoration, including the date and location, will be announced in due course once arrangements have been finalised.
