My Department’s officials have engaged with the Coalition of the Willing on Bidirectional Charging. Ireland also participates in the EU Sustainable Transport Forum Sub-group on Governance and Standards and its dedicated working group on “Smart and Bidirectional Charging”.

In May 2026, the Forum and the Smart Energy Expert Group (D4E), together with the Coalition, adopted a joint report entitled Data Exchange for Demand-Side Flexibility and Smart and Bidirectional Charging. This report sets out recommendations to support secure, inter-operable data exchange and to enable electric vehicles, including through bidirectional charging, to contribute to demand-side flexibility and the wider energy system.
