The Creative Ireland Programme is an all of government initiative in my department set up 8 years ago with the ambition to transform our lives, society and economy by increasing the connection to our collective creativity.

Within the Creative Ireland Programme, Creative Communities is a partnership between my Department and Ireland’s 31 local authorities, supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Each local authority has a locally developed Culture and Creativity Strategy 2023-2027 and receives funding to deliver local strategic priorities that deliver on the principles and values of Creative Communities, including broadening access to and participation in, cultural and creative activities locally. This can include the delivery of a mural programme at local level.

Each local authority has the autonomy to use their Creative Ireland funding in line with the priorities of their Culture and Creativity Strategy. Individuals and organisations should liaise directly with their local authority around application processes.
