179. Deputy Pa Daly asked the Minister for Transport the funding spent on purchasing green hydrogen buses since 2020 to date; the number of these buses that are in operation, broken down by the year they were purchased; the number of buses in storage broken down by the year they were purchased; the average daily cost to maintain a green hydrogen bus in operation; the average daily cost to maintain a green hydrogen in storage, in each of the years 2020 to date, in tabular form. I propose to take Questions Nos. 178 and 179 together.

As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure, including the provision and upgrade of public transport such as bus fleets.

Noting the NTA's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the NTA for a direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.

Pending this more detailed response, I note that these buses were used in a Hydrogen Technology pilot programme in collaboration with Bus Éireann following the success of the Low-Emission Bus Trials.
