Questions (342)

Roderic O'Gorman

Question:

342. Deputy Roderic O'Gorman asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine in view of confirmation from RCÉ that the RCÉTS does not retain a static record identifying the exact cohort of greyhounds included in the traceability system at a specific date, and that it is therefore not possible to retrospectively determine the active or inactive status of individual greyhounds on the system, if he considers the RCÉTS to be fit for purpose; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Rásaíocht Con Éireann (RCÉ) is a commercial state body established under the Greyhound Industry Act 1958 chiefly to control greyhound racing and to improve and develop the greyhound industry. RCÉ is a body corporate and a separate legal entity to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The questions raised by the Deputy are operational matters for RCÉ and, therefore, the questions have been referred to that body for direct reply.
