In her State of the Union address to the European Parliament in September 2025, the President of the European Commission announced an intention to convene a first EU Housing Summit, in order to ensure that delivery of affordable housing remains high on the EU’s policy agenda. The Government is discussing plans for a possible Housing Summit during the Irish EU Presidency with the European Commission. Pending a decision on the timing, location and arrangements for such a meeting, it is not possible to provide an estimate of associated costs.

The Irish EU Presidency will convene a meeting of EU Housing Ministers in Dublin in November, to advance discussions on the EU’s approach to housing policy.

In the delivery of all events hosted as part of Ireland’s EU Presidency, the Government is committed to ensuring value for money, careful budgetary management and control, and prioritisation within existing resources.
