Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Defence if she will provide an update on the Commission on Defence Forces recommendation to clarify the roles of the Garda Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Defence Forces’ ARW to ensure that there is a clear understanding of how they would interact in an operational situation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe Deputy will appreciate, for operational and security reasons, it is not appropriate for me to comment further on any particular elements of the working relationship between the ERU and the Defence Forces, given the sensitive nature of their respective operational domains. Suffice to say, the Military Authorities advise that ongoing dialogue between them and their colleagues in AGS continues thus ensuring the excellent working relationship between the Garda Emergency Response Unit and Army Ranger Wing in order to ensure the best supports can be provided as and when required.
