View answerThe Joint Research Centre (JRC) reported on a list of potential suitable technologies for fertiliser derived from Recycling of Nitrogen Manure (RENURE) to be considered as a chemical fertiliser under the Nitrates Directive. Three of the technologies were put forward by the Commission and a vote was passed at the Nitrates Committee on the 19 September 2025 allowing the fertiliser from the three technologies to be considered as chemical fertiliser under the Nitrates Directive.
While Ireland voted in favour of the inclusion of the three technologies within the Nitrates Directive, Ireland requested at the Nitrates Committee that the other technologies included in the JRC Report would also be considered for inclusion as Ireland does not currently have the three technologies included.
