Four Climate Action Plans have been published since the introduction of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 - Climate Action Plan 2021, Climate Action 2023, Climate Action 2024 and Climate Action Plan 2025.

My Department has successfully completed all agreed actions within its remit in Climate Action Plans 2021 - 2024. With regards to Climate Action Plan 2025, one legacy action remains to be completed by my Department and the table below illustrates the current position: -

Action

Year

Timeline for completion

Develop three new programmes in sustainable agriculture at QQI Levels 5 and 6.

2025

Q3/Q4 2026

My officials are working closely with SOLAS to complete this action with 3 QQI minor awards programmes currently progressing through validation. Subject to validation, delivery of all 3 courses is planned to commence in Q3/Q4 2026. The Deputy should note that a Climate Action Plan action is deemed complete by D/Taoiseach and not the lead Department.

My Department will continue to lead the response of the tertiary education sector to the requirements of the green transition, including through relevant high impact actions, as appropriate, in future iterations of Climate Action Plans.
