2085. Deputy John Brady asked the Minister for Social Protection to provide a detailed breakdown of spending on media training or strategic consultants by his Department and all bodies under his aegis in preparation for Oireachtas committees since 2022; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Social Protection arranged the following training for staff in preparation for appearances at Oireachtas Committees between 2022 and to date in 2026:

Parliamentary committee preparation – Delivered in 2023; 38 participants at a total cost of €4,180.

Witness preparation – Delivered across 2024 and 2025; 10 participants at a total cost of €1,100

Team preparation – Delivered across 2024 and 2026 4 participants at a total cost of €440

Department Total (2022–2026): €5,830.

Citizens Information Board (CIB)

2023: Public affairs training for MABS Support Cost: €692.

2026: Two public affairs training sessions • Senior Management and Communications Executive Cost: €4,920.

Staff of CIB, Citizens Information Services and MABS organisations Cost: €5,535.

CIB Total: €11,147.

My Department and the Citizens Information Board undertake this targeted public affairs and committee-preparation training to ensure staff are well equipped to effectively engage with Oireachtas Committees and members of the Oireachtas, during these sessions. This investment supports clear, transparent and accountable engagement with the Oireachtas and reflects the Department’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of public service.
