Under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has responsibility for the promotion of public awareness of road safety and of measures, including the advancement of education, relating to the promotion of the safe use of roads. This includes providing advice on road safety matters to all roads users including those visiting Ireland.

The RSA website includes a detailed guide for tourists in relation to using the roads in Ireland, which has been translated into many different languages. This includes information on driving on the left, speed limits, towing vehicles such as caravans, traffic lights, roundabouts, road signs and driving while intoxicated.

While the RSA is not responsible for the regulation of car rental companies, given the RSA's responsibility for the promotion of road safety, I have referred the Deputy's question and suggestion to the RSA for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
