As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that traffic wardens operating under the remit of Local Authorities can issue fines for failure to display a tax disc.

Section 5 of the Roads Act 1920 provides that a motor tax disc must be fixed and exhibited on the vehicle in respect of which it is issued. Section 73 of the Finance Act 1976 provides that non-display of a motor tax disc is an offence.

Under the Local Authorities (Traffic Wardens) Act 1975 traffic wardens can impose fines for non-display of a motor tax disc.
