The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) will take up the role of heat network regulator following commencement of the Heat Bill, which is anticipated to happen in 2027. My Department will be looking to make an allocation from voted expenditure to meet expenses incurred by the CRU in carrying out functions specifically deriving from that role over the course of 2027. Similar funding will be sought in subsequent years. However, the provision of Exchequer funding will be subject to review to ascertain the ongoing necessity for such funding to continue, especially as the district heating sector grows and matures.
