The annual summer course for primary school teachers at Leinster House returned this July and this year's theme was active citizenship.
The Oireachtas education team invited primary school teachers to Leinster House between 6 July and 10 July, to take part in the course that focused on the importance of being an active citizen.
The course, entitled The Future Is You: An Introduction to Active Citizenship in Primary School, explored how to foster active citizenship in students within the school and broader community, while also considering how to integrate global citizenship education across the primary curriculum.
21 teachers from schools across the country attended this year's course and sessions emphasised practical ways to encourage students to become active citizens, incorporating discussions and activities that encourage teachers to explore active learning methodologies and resources.

The teachers attended the Gallery of the Dáil Chamber during the week for Leaders' Questions, a perennially interesting aspect of the course.
Elected members from the schools’ constituencies were invited to attend a meet-and-greet with the teachers, with a number of TDs taking time from their busy schedules to meet those taking part.
