European Update | The Oireachtas National Parliament Office for the European Union

Keep up to date on what's happening in the European Commission, Council and Parliament with the weekly Oireachtas Digest on Europe.

This week in The European Parliament, MEPs will debate and vote on a range of issues including recommendations on how to strengthen the EU's resiliance against foreign interferance and the annual State of the European Union address by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

On 15 September, MEPs will debate the recent escalation of Russia's hybrid attacks against member states and how to protect the EU's territorial integrity. A vote of resolution on hybrid welfare will take place on Wednesday.

On the same day, the Irish Council Presidency along with MEP's and the Commission, will meet to discuss and evaluate lessons learnt from the extreme climate events that took place this summer, including heatwaves and wildfires. 

On 16 September, Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney, will appear as a guest of honour at the State of the European Union (SOTEU) along with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and MEPs.
