How do I amend the Official Report?

The Official Report is the authoritative record of public proceedings in the Houses of the Oireachtas and parliamentary committees. It is substantially but not strictly verbatim because it is accepted that the spoken word must be lightly edited for a readership as opposed to a listenership.

The Official Report from 1919 to the present day can be found in our repository of parliamentary debates. Debate searches may also be refined by House, such as Dáil and Seanad, and by committee.

The first unedited draft of the Official Report is available to Members via Lotus Notes before it is edited and published on the website.

Requesting a correction

Members may refer to the Editor of Debates, as soon as possible after publication, any suggested amendments or corrections. It is a matter for the Editor as to whether the suggested amendments or corrections should be made.

Requests for amendment or correction should be sent to Editor of Debates or contact 618 3309.

Speaking notes

If a Member uses a prepared speech, the parliamentary reporter may request a copy, either electronically or in hard copy, to assist with accuracy and the speedy production of the debate. It may be necessary to ensure a quote from a constituent's email has been accurately transcribed, for example, or that a townland in the Member’s constituency is spelled correctly.
