I propose to take Questions Nos. 116 and 117 together.

As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that standards for roadworthiness are regulated at EU level. As the UK is no longer a member state of the EU, UK roadworthiness certificates are no longer recognised in Ireland.

Vehicles purchased outside the State must undergo roadworthiness testing once registered in the State, in accordance with the Road Traffic (National Car Test) Regulations 2017 (SI 415/2017) and the Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness (Vehicle Testing) (No. 2) Regulations 2013 (SI 347/2013), as amended.

The national car test is a point-in-time test and it reflects the condition of the vehicle only at the time of testing. It is the responsibility of a vehicle owner to ensure that their vehicle is in a roadworthy condition at all times.

Question No. 117 answered with Question No. 116.
