Following the passing of resolutions in Dail Éireann and Seanad Éireann, the Defence Forces Tribunal of Inquiry was established by Statutory Instrument (S.I. 304 of 2024), on 20 June 2024.

The Tribunal of Inquiry will examine the effectiveness of the complaints processes in the Defence Forces concerning workplace issues relating to discrimination, bullying, harassment, sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. The Tribunal will also investigate the response to complaints made regarding the use of hazardous chemicals within Air Corps’ headquarters at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel.

The Terms of Reference provide that the Tribunal shall endeavour to complete its work within a three-year timeframe.

The Tribunal is entirely independent in its functions and information in relation to the work of the Tribunal can be found on its website at www.toidf.ie.
