Employees of non-commercial State bodies under the aegis of my Department have access to membership of the Single Public Service Pension Scheme, subject to the relevant provisions of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and Other Provisions) Act 2012, as amended. Employees of those bodies who do not have entitlement to Single Scheme membership normally have access to the pre-existing pension scheme of the body employing them, or to a pre-existing scheme of a different public body.

Administration of pre-existing pension schemes of the non-commercial aegis bodies, including maintaining records of numbers and grades of scheme members, is an operational matter for the aegis bodies themselves, and not something for which I or my officials have day to day responsibility.

The commercial state bodies under the aegis of my Department (An Post, RTE and TG4) are not “public service bodies” and accordingly, employees of those bodies do not have access to the Single Scheme or to other pension schemes restricted to “public servants”.
