Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science if any website or other platform operated by his Department uses an AI-enabled chatbot; if there are plans to use chatbots; in what circumstances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerMy Department’s website is one of a number of departmental websites hosted on the Gov.ie platform.
The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), within the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, is currently developing AI-enabled chatbot technology for integration across the Gov.ie platform.
This initiative is intended to enhance public access to government services and information by providing timely, accessible, and user-focused digital support, in line with the objectives of the Digital Public Services Plan 2030.
A public beta phase of the Gov.ie chatbot is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of this year.
