Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science if any website or other platform operated by his Department uses an AI-enabled chatbot; if there are plans to use chatbots; in what circumstances; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), within the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, is currently developing AI-enabled chatbot technology for integration across the Gov.ie platform.
This initiative is intended to enhance public access to government services and information by providing timely, accessible, and user-focused digital support, in line with the objectives of the Digital Public Services Plan 2030.
A public beta phase of the Gov.ie chatbot is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of this year.
