As Minister of State with responsibility for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, I wish to advise that prior to 2018 receipts from Motor Tax were paid into the Local Government Fund. Since 1 January 2018, following budgetary reform measures provided for in the Water Services Act 2017, receipts from Motor Tax have accrued to the Exchequer. Motor Tax receipts are not ringfenced for any particular purpose and are paid directly into the Central Fund.
The table below sets out the amount of Motor Tax collected between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025, broken down by the vehicle owner’s county at the time of taxation.
