As the National Tourism Development Authority, Fáilte Ireland’s role is to support the long-term sustainable growth in the economic, social, cultural and environmental contribution of tourism to Ireland. Fáilte Ireland works in partnership with Government, State agencies, Local Authorities, representative groups and industry, to develop tourism across Ireland.

I understand that Fáilte Ireland recognise the necessity for capital investment to unlock the full potential of the castle. Should Galway County Council take ownership of the castle, Fáilte Ireland is committed to supporting the development of its tourism potential. Specifically, their aim is to enhance the visitor experience while preserving the cultural and historical integrity of the site.

Currently, there are no appropriate active capital grant schemes available to support such projects. When a new suitable scheme opens up, then the project could apply but will be required to meet all the criteria of the scheme.
