208. Deputy Thomas Gould asked the Minister for Education and Youth whether funding provided through Cara Nua for victims of institutional abuse is available for the purchase of a car. [9111/26]
View answerCaranua was established in 2013 to disburse the contributions of €110m (€111.38m including interest) provided by the religious congregations following the publication of the Ryan Report, by providing funding supports to survivors in respect of approved services in areas such as health, housing or education.
Caranua did not provide funding to support the purchase of a car.
Due to the exhaustion of the funding available to it, Caranua effectively closed in March 2021 and will be formally dissolved in accordance with the provisions of the Supports for Survivors of Residential Institutional Abuse Act 2025 in due course.
