View answerMy Department regularly communicates with the public on measures and developments in relation to climate action and sustainability through communications campaigns and media relations. Most recently, my Department has run multi-platform campaigns on community climate action (Climate Actions Work); sustainable textile consumption (Reverse the Trend); circular/sustainable living (Its Time to get Circular); and clean air (Lets Clear the Air).
Through our press office, my Department engages with the media to publicise these campaigns and has engaged closely with Sustainable Media Ireland, a voluntary sector-wide sustainability network for Irish media organisations, to ensure that our climate and sustainability initiatives are communicated to their members.
The National Dialogue on Climate Action (NDCA) is my Department’s key initiative to engage people in climate action. It supports a number of civic partners taking climate action including An Taisce National Climate Change Action and Awareness Programme (NCCAAP) which educates adults on climate action.
The NCCAAP has trained over 1,500 Climate Ambassadors who have engaged their communities in enhancing biodiversity, coastal conservation, freshwater ecology, the circular economy, environmental education, nature restoration, sustainable travel, climate communication through the arts, sustainable energy, tree planting, rewilding, peatland preservation, flood mapping and prevention, and environmental advocacy. Its 2025 programme delivered 428 climate actions which engaged over 209,000 people. NCCAP’s Green Campus programme also grew in 2025, bringing climate action awareness and participation to 60 active sites. The programme also includes a Climate Ambassador Podcast which will feature 10 episodes in 2026, aiming to exceed 5,000 listeners and adding to its 18,500 total to date.
