The Labour Force Survey (LFS) is the official source of labour market estimates for the State. The official labour market classification of respondents to the LFS is based on International Labour Organisation – or ILO – concepts and definitions. The most recent LFS figures available are for Q4 2025.

The number of people aged 15-29 classified as unemployed in Q4 2025 was 53,200, an increase of 2,300 people from Q4 2024.

The unemployment rate (ILO) for persons aged 15-29 for the State in Q4 2025 was 8.1%, an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the rate 7.9% recorded a year earlier. The unemployment rate for those aged 15-74 years in Q4 2025 was 4.4%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points from 4.0% recorded a year ago.

LFS estimates for Q1 2026 will be published on 21 May 2026.
