The Civil Service provides for permanent mobility within the system through the Civil Service Mobility Scheme, which supports the transfer of civil servants to equivalent roles across Departments and Offices of the Irish Civil Service only.

Where a civil servant wishes to take up a permanent appointment within the European Union, the Officer must resign from the Irish Civil Service, with future pension entitlements considered separately in accordance with the relevant pension arrangements.
